Making the Most of Mobile

Making the Most of Mobile
People really love their smartphones. In fact, odds are you're reading this on your smartphone right now. As of 2016, a majority of people accessed the internet through their mobile device versus a desktop computer. Google also announced most people visiting their site are doing so on a mobile device.

What does that mean for you? It means that if you aren't thinking about your web presence with mobile responsiveness in mind, then you've got a tough fight in your future.

What does mobile responsive mean?

To put it simply, a mobile-responsive website is one that adapts to the site visitor's screen size. For example, if you're looking at a responsive site on an iPhone or Android, you'll likely notice that the layout looks a little different from the desktop version. The navigation topics at the top of the page might now be in a list form under a hamburger button, or some of the images may have shifted a bit to better fit your screen. This is done to ensure that your website looks as great as possible on any device.

Mobile sites?

In the past, web designers would have to create an entirely separate "mobile site" to ensure your website was properly showcased on all devices. Thanks to responsive technology, those days are long gone. However, many companies and individuals still maintain outdated websites that require site visitors to pinch and drag around the screen to properly see the page on their smartphone. This is a quick way to get someone to abandon your website altogether and visit your mobile-responsive competitor instead.

The future

As technology develops, so do web design best practices. The number of users on mobile devices will only grow, and we're already at a place where the mobile version of a website is often the design companies really care about. At Levant, we encourage all our clients to utilize responsive technology for their websites: it's an investment in the future of your brand, and a way to make life a little easier for your customers.
